Share Your World – 2016 Week 9 Feb 29, 2016

I’m participating this week in Share Your World – 2016 Week 9 where you can learn how bananas I really am. Here are my answers to the questions…

Have you done something you truly want to do today?

Yes. I took the whole day and did not check my email or blog until now and it is about 7 pm central time. It was really nice to have a full day with nothing to do except watch TV and read a book and nap.

What can you help the world with?

I hope that my blogs are inspirational and educational to those that read them. I enjoy writing them and the topics are varied for each blog. For example, Susan’s Devotional Journal is a Christian Devotional and Bible Study Blog and Susan’s Creative Writing and Poetry Blog is my blog where I do most of my poetry and my flash fiction and short stories. Those are just two of my four blogs. If you haven’t checked out the other two, you can find them listed under Pages.

If life was ‘just a bowl of cherries’… which fruit other than a cherry would you be..?

I would have to say a banana. I love bananas and would eat them everyday if they were available. Of course, I know they are a fattening fruit but who cares. They are delicious and I always give the last bite to Guinness, my dog. He is as addicted to them as I am.

Quotes List: At least three of your favorite quotes?

My quotes change regularly, but today, these three are my favorites:

“Your writing voice is the deepest possible reflection of who you are. The job of your voice is not to seduce or flatter or make well-shaped sentences. In your voice, your readers should be able to hear the contents of your mind, your heart, your soul.”

Meg Rosoff

“The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart.”

Maya Angelou

“When I began to listen to poetry, it’s when I began to listen to the stones, and I began to listen to what the clouds had to say, and I began to listen to others. And I think, most importantly for all of us, then you begin to learn to listen to the soul, the soul of yourself in here, which is also the soul of everyone else.”

Joy Harjo

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am very grateful that my daughter is doing so much better physically and mentally. I am grateful that my depressed mood and my pain from my fibromyalgia are starting to improve also.

What I am looking forward to this week is that the pain from my fibromyalgia and the depression from my financial situation continue to improve.

If you are interested in participating in Share Your World, Here is the basic format.

Share Your World – 2016 Week 7 Feb 16, 2016

Share Your World – 2016 Week 7

This week I’m participating again in Share Your World with 4 questions and a Bonus question to allow you to get to know me a little bit. Here goes… Susan…

1.What are you a “natural” at doing?

Most of my life I was a natural at nursing. I am a retired RN after 32 years of working. Now, however, I would say that I am a natural at writing, especially poetry and flash fiction. I enjoy all types of writing though and I am very good at doing my own editing.

2.Would you prefer a one-floor house or multiple levels?

Let me preface this answer with the fact that I live with my daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren, ages 4 and 6. We live in a two-story home and it works for me because I am in the master suite on the first floor at the back of the house. I have severe arthritis and fibromyalgia and can’t climb stairs except in an emergency so everyone else is upstairs to sleep and I have my own large living/bedroom and bathroom downstairs so it is perfect. If I lived alone, which I can’t anymore, it would have to be an apartment on the ground floor or a single level home.

3.What was your favorite subject in school?

I really loved any subject in school all through school except math. I hated math. My very favorite was English Literature and American History.

4.Complete this sentence: If only the rain…

STOP. It has been raining straight for 3 days and we have seen no sunshine. Of course, the week before was worse because it snowed all week so they closed schools all week…mind you, it was less than 4 inches but when it snows in Nashville, the whole city comes to a standstill. They are promising us sun and 60 degrees this weekend. I hope they keep their promise.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that my granddaughter, who was out of school last week because of snow, is back in school this week. This week I am looking forward to graduation from my Intermediate Haiku Class on All Poetry.

This week I am looking forward to graduation from my Intermediate Haiku Class on All Poetry. Also less rain and more sun and warmer weather for the weekend.

Share Your World – 2016 Week 5 Feb 8, 2016

Share Your World – 2016 Week 5

This week I’m participating again in Share Your World with 4 questions and a Bonus question to allow you to get to know me a little bit. Here goes… Susan…

1.If you had a shelf for your three most special possessions (not including electronic devices and things stored on them, people or animals), what would you put on it?

My Rainbow Study Bible that I got for Christmas is my prize possession. I have two special cards given to me. One by my sister before she died and the other by my best friend, Anne when she moved from Ohio to Michigan while I was moving from Ohio to Florida.

2.If you had a box labelled ‘happiness’, what would you put in it?

I’d put several things that wouldn’t stay there long because t they are movable. First are my two pets, Guinness, my rescue dog, and Elvis Catstello, my rescue cat. Then, I would add my two grand children ages 4 and 6. I venture to say they each would last about 30 seconds in the box before jumping out. But they are all in my room a lot. 🙂

3.What do you want more of in your life?

I want more consistent time with God in prayer and reading His word. I am so inconsistent. I will be faithful for a week and then life gets in the way. I just need to make Him a #1 priority for me.

4.Daily Life List: What do you do on an average day? Make a list of your usual activities you do each day.

Wake up about 6:15 am
Get coffee
Spend some time with the grandchildren before school
Watch about 10 minutes News (all I can handle)
Check my email and my daily agenda for my blogs (I have 4)
Read some of the blogs I receive.
Take meds and eat some breakfast
Start writing
Break for lunch
Write and read some more.
Take a break
Eat dinner
Write some on All Poetry
Do homework for All Poetry class on Intermediate Haiku
Write some more on Blogs
Watch some TV
Off to bed about 1 am

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that my daughter who was hospitalized last week came home from the hospital and has improved.

I am grateful for my computer as a lifeline to my blogs, friends, and various learning sites.

I am looking forward to learning about Tanka poetry and Haibun poetry.

A Thankful Heart – Susan's Devotional Journal 1/18/16

Day Eighteen: A Thankful Heart

Scripture Devotional Series,  “Quiet Moments With Jesus”

From the Devotional Series, “Quiet Moments With Jesus”

My Thoughts

We are following the Devotional Series: Quiet Moments with Jesus, Book 2, IN THE SECRET: A 30 Day Devotional by Adam Houge. This evening, Jesus tells us in the Devotional that we need to approach Him with gratitude even in times of trial, but be assured that He is working for our good the whole time.

1. What do praise and thankfulness do?

2. Why does Jesus say it is necessary to thank Him in times of hardship?

3. What does Jesus say is necessary for you to do the impossible?

4. Why must you be intentional about seeing what Jesus is doing in your life?

5. How can you have an almost prophetic mind about what Jesus is doing for you?

6. What will be the end result of following Jesus with a grateful heart?

7. Memorize  the scripture in 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

 Lord Jesus,

With a grateful heart, I thank you for all that you do for me Your good and ours and You will be glorified. Thank You for being faithful and trustworthy.  I Thank You and Praise You. You are my Lord, Provider, and Deliverer. Praise Your Holy Name, Jesus.

Amen, Susan…

Susan’s Devotional Journal will continue with my new devotional that is on my Kindle through The Devotional Series, “Quiet Moments With Jesus” is a devotional written by Adam Houge and includes a series of six devotionals that are 30 days long each, totaling 180 days.
