Hebrews 12:14-15 (NIV)

BIBLE (Version NIV)
SCRIPTURE: (Write it out): Hebrews 12:14-15 : “14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.“
OBSERVATION (What I learned): Chapter 12 is full of warnings in Hebrews. This chapter follows that of Chapter 11 with the theme about faith and God’s promises to the ancients. Now, this Chapter gives some encouragement but much more warnings about what will happen to those who are faithless, lacking in faith. Verses 14 and 15 say to make every effort to be peaceful with others and to live a holy life or I will not see the Lord. It goes further to say that I need to see that nobody falls short of grace or in other words, I should spread the gospel of grace, the new covenant with Jesus as our mediator. It also says that I should guard against anyone with a bitterness that can spread within my group which includes my family, church, friends.
APPLICATION (to my life): I take heed to the warnings given. I do live a peaceful life not seeking animosity toward others. When I do feel anger or animosity toward someone, I confess my feelings to Jesus. My faith is growing stronger each day and I am working at living my life as Jesus would. I do at times see bitterness around me, but I try to help that person deal with their anger and bitterness if possible. I feel that I am spreading the grace and new covenant of Jesus through the Devotional and the Bible Study on this website. I also try to spread the work of grace to those that I speak with day to day.
Prayer (use scripture as a guide): Dear Lord Jesus, this Chapter warns me what can happen if I lose my faith and lets me know that I am in this for the long haul. It reminds me that discipline from God can be expected as part of growing in You. Please help me with this because I did not have a good parent model in my childhood, so that when I hear discipline, I think punishment and pain. I praise You for being there for me when I call upon you. I praise You for Your faithfulness. Thank You and Praise You.
