Study The Book of the Bible – Hebrews
FYI–Wordpress.com took away my settings under my previous theme (Chateau) and would not replace them without me paying $99. So I had to quickly choose and set up this theme. Sorry for the change…
Use the SOAP method to study a verse that speaks to you from each chapter.
Hebrews 9:27-28 (NIV)
27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
(I would recommend that you read all of Chapter 9 so that you can put the above verse into context.)
BIBLE (Version NIV)
SCRIPTURE: (Write it out): Hebrews 9:27-28: Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
OBSERVATION (What I learned): Chapter 9 continues to speak about the new covenant from God and compares the new covenant to the old covenant with prior high priests. It speaks of death and final judgement that we all face but explains that Christ was the ultimate and eternal sacrifice himself to take away sin once and for all. These two verses also talk of Christ coming back a second time to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
APPLICATION (to my life): I am grateful for Christ’s eternal sacrifice that made it possible for my sins to be forgiven. The new covenant is much better than the old covenant that was not working. It is my responsibility now that I have accepted salvation from Jesus Christ, to listen to him and the Holy Spirit in my daily life as I learn to live in the new covenant. Jesus saved me so that I can follow him and have eternal life and as I live this life and learn about Jesus and his covenant, I am led to teach others about the great gift of Jesus Christ’s salvation.
Prayer (use scripture as a guide): Lord Jesus, Chapter 9 told me about Your new covenant and how it differs from the old covenant of the Law. You made the ultimate sacrifice of blood on the cross so that we all could have eternal life in heaven. I thank you for your gift to me and desire to know you and your word more fully so that I can speak and teach others about your wonderful gift to us. I praise You, Christ, for You are the new covenant and I praise and thank you for what you have done for me and millions like me. Thank you and praise your holy name. Thank you for the Book of Hebrews written to help the Hebrews understand that you are the better covenant.
