Childhood Sexual Abuse

My Story…

I have told you about my own childhood sexual abuse. That story was written on February 6, 2015, and can be seen on my blog, Depression and Mental and Mental Health Awareness. In short, I was sexually abused from age 4-12  by my father. I don’t know how many times because I have not recovered all of the memories from that time. My memories were blocked, I believe by God, to protect me until I was older and could deal with the memories. Enough memories have been recovered to enable me to say that the abuse happened multiple times over multiple years.

Statistics…

Childhood sexual abuse statistics vary from 1 in 3-4 girls to 1 in 10 girls and 1 in 20-25 boys depending upon the website and the date of the statistics. It is felt that childhood sexual abuse is greatly underreported due to the nature of the abuse and the fact that it occurs many times within your own home and/or family.

Another Story…

I wanted to share another story of childhood sexual abuse told by Tara Lyons in the video below. This video does have a  **Trigger Warning** for anyone who has been sexually abused as a child. It is a very valuable media presentation of what happens when you are sexually abused as a child.

*Trigger Warning* The content of this video may cause emotional reactions from some viewers. Childhood Sexual Abuse is an issue that affects an enormous number of innocents kids. I poured my heart into this video. The original video has been viewed over 10,000 times since July. I would appreciate it if you could take a moment to watch. If you aren’t comfortable with watching, I would like to ask that you please share. CSA should be a thing of the past. Let’s start working together to eradicate this horrendous issue. This video has been edited to exclude names because I use this as a speaking tool to spread awareness throughout the state of Montana. Thank you to everyone who has supported me this far. T

Better – 30 Days of Reflection-Day 28

Pause and Reflect…

Yesterday I spoke on Psalm 105:2 continues the praise begun in Psalm 104 with a calling for us to sing psalms and praises to God for all of his wonderful work (creation, provision, protection, triumph).

I personally chose Psalm 105:2 because I wanted to praise God for answered prayers for my daughter. She has been ill and unable to work. During her illness, she had turned away from God and the Bible, so my prayers and requests for prayer were for her return to God and His Word, healing from her illness, and her ability to return to work.

God is working in her life. She is praying…Colossians 3:12 (NIV) “12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” I am still amazed at God’s faithfulness and trust

Let’s look at today’s verse and reflection…
