Lightning and Thunder

Zeus was not having a good day and he made sure everyone knew it.” Lightning and thunder were at his bidding. The skies turned black, then the sky would light up followed by thunder echoing loudly. This dance of lightning and thunder continued for hours.

Maryann was terrified of storms. Tonight was no different. The electricity had been out for over an hour and her cell phone was dead. She was crouched down, trembling and hyperventilating from a panic attack when she was further startled by loud banging at the door.

She eased the gun from her nightstand and cocked the hammer. The banging noise was as deafening as the thunder. The lightning outside lit her room for a few seconds and then plunged Maryann back into darkness.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps in the hallway. The footsteps entered the bedroom and there was a loud muzzle blast that lit up the path. Maryann’s husband lay at her feet on the floor dead.
