“A body suddenly crashed through a plate glass window at the Brigadier’s house” and the rumors started. Everyone knew it was due to the rowdy parties at his estate. At least that is what they thought. His parties were rumored to be pretty wild. This surprised nobody.
It was the buzz around town that the girl who fell was dead drunk. They didn’t know who she was, but surely the girl knew better. The police closed off the area and gave no information to the public so the rumors ran rampant. Not much happened in this town and this was exciting.
Later that week the town learned who it was that fell. It was the Brigadier’s 12-year-old daughter, Amelia. She hadn’t been drinking but tripped over the dog, Brutus, and hurtled through the window.
Amelia was in critical condition at St. Thomas Moore Medical Center. She was on life-support and unresponsive. The rumors started buzzing again.
Everyone said, “Shame on the rumor mill.”
